Application

Aluminium clad steel wire/strand is used for various voltage level power transmission lines , overhead transmission lines and overhead ground wires. It can also be applied in various special areas with long span length, coastal areas and island as well as other hot and humid regions, salt fog regions and heavily polluted regions where the high corrosion resistance strand is needed. Aluminium clad steel wire/strand can also be used as messanger wire for electrified railways.

Construction

Aluminium clad steel wire/strand is composed of round reinforced steel and uniform aluminium layer outside. Aluninium clad steel strand is composed of stranded aluminium clad steel wires.

2.Construction
Aluminum clad steel wire is a piece of round wire made of a round steel core clad with a uniform and continuous aluminum layer. By structure ratio of steel and aluminum, aluminum clad steel wire has different grades, LB14, LB20, LB23, LB27, LB30, LB35 and LB40, with corresponding electric conductivities of 14%, 20.3%, 23%, 27%, 30%, 35% and 40% IACS (IACS stands for International Annealed Copper Standard). Featured by high strength, corrosion resistance and high conductivity, etc.

3.Applications
Aluminum clad steel wire is widely used in coastal areas, volcano areas, salt atmosphere areas and overhead power line used in areas seriously polluted by industrial materials containing SO2, NO and CO2, etc. It’s the optimum material for transmission conductor with kilometric span and carrier cable for electrified railways.

4.Features
ACS conductors are similar to conventional ACSR with some very important additional advantages. ACS can operate continuously at high temperatures up to 250C without damage, allowing for a significant increase in conductor current-carrying capacity. ACSS sags less under emergency electrical loadings than ACSR, it is self-damping, and its final sags are not affected by long-term creep of the aluminum.
